When a SOF service member returns from deployment, the focus is often on their reintegration. But what about the spouse who has been holding everything together during their absence?
Spouses as the Foundation of Healing
SOF spouses are often the first to notice when their partner is struggling. They provide emotional support, help create a stable environment, and encourage their partner to seek help when needed. Yet, their own emotional health is rarely prioritized in the recovery process.
The Cost of Overlooking Spouses
Ignoring the well-being of SOF spouses can have a ripple effect. If spouses aren’t supported, it’s harder for them to support their families effectively. This creates a cycle of stress that impacts everyone.
A Call for Change
It’s time for the SOF community to recognize and invest in the well-being of spouses. Programs that offer counseling, peer support, and wellness resources can make a huge difference.
